Remember to weigh your self-striping yarn before you start in case you want to use 1/2. I was sure I had noted down all the weights but apparently not.

This is the first and last time using an afterthought heel.

• I had to rip out more than 1/2 sock, as the foot was too long, the heel was too large and had big holes at the side, and I didn’t like the stripe I ended with before the colourwork. Boohoo! Better to rip and have a sock I love!

This yarn works out to be 385 yards for 100 grams, so definitely a fingering (on the heavier size). The pattern calls for a 2.75 mm needle, but I knit loosely so I’m going to knit with a 2.0 mm needle and go up to a 2.25 mm for the colourwork.

Pattern choices are 64 or 74 stitches. Although my foot measures the larger measurement, based on prior socks 74 will be way too large, so knitting the 64 stitches. Toe up means trying on! Note - should have gone with 60 stitches. No negative ease in this sock

I decided the magic cast on could wait for another time so just used the figure 8. Cast on 10 by mistake them just increased every other row to 64.

• knit 13 stripes then heel, then 12 stripes then colourwork and rib per pattern.
• did 2 rows of the CC1 at the start of the colourwork, to make it more of a line between the last stripe.
• did FLKH as I’m going along, instead of afterthought heel.
• 38 grams striped yarn left after first sock.
