ERRATA IN PRINTED BOOK ALERT!
Modifications for sport weight yarn:
Original pattern: 14.5 stitches/4 inches, original cast on: 32 stitches. Therefore, original yoke size is 8.8 inches.
Sport weight yarn: 22 stitches/4 inches - remember, small yarn = more stitches per inch!
Modified cast on stitches math: (8.8 inches * 22 stitches)/ 4 inches = 48.5 stitches. I’m rounding down to 48.
To make up for lost height, after second, third, and fourth increases, K 11 instead of K 5. Finished yoke should be a little less than four inches tall. My yoke was a bit more than four inches.
If you are going to still do buttonholes, then make sure you add an equal amount of space in all of the garter rows after each increase - probably K 9 after each increase to be on the safe side. I did not think about the height difference until after the second increase.
No button modification: Instead of a YF (yarn forward) or YO (yarn over) for the buttonholes, I am making one (m1) also known as knitting front and back (k1fb).
I will then hand stitch hook and loop tape (Velcro) on the yoke instead of buttons.
Making bind off 10 stitches to be wide enough for Velcro closure. 100 stitches. Work 70. Pm.
Like the designer’s original blog post, I plan on closing the bottom with a kitchener stitch rather than making a flap and sewing on buttons.

But I decided to use snaps for the top and bottom. Edited: Adding snaps was a disaster. They did not stay in the yarn and they got ripped out. DO NOT USE SNAPS.
Knitting in stockinette in the round: knit and never stop. If you knit and purl you will get garter. These are design features on my baby cozy.

Cast off 49 before doing the garter flap.
I didn’t do garter in the round like I was supposed to, so I made the garter flap seven inches long to make up the lost length. Oops.
Sewing on Velcro as soon as I buy some yellow thread.
Hat increase to 68 stitches before knitting length. You also want to cast on more than four stitches for the i-cord; perhaps eight or 12 would look less ridiculous.
Omitting buttonhole and flap for safety reasons.
