If dragons and snakes are vaguely related, somewhere way back when (and why shouldn’t they be?), then you’d expect to see similarities between some of the snakes indigenous to a region and its dragons.

Red belly black snakes are fairly common in the area. Although venomous, they are a “good” snake to have around, being relatively non-aggressive, keeping small marsupial numbers under control and more aggressive and venomous snakes, such as brown snakes, out of their territory.
