Improvised toe-up pattern using Judy’s magic cast-on to start.
Knitting 2 socks at once using one set of circular needles.
Making it with after-thought heel (instead of gusset heel as I had intended), because I’d accidentally knitted too much, and would have to frog some rows if I used a gusset heel.
Total width: 42 sts
Cable pattern (knitted circularly, ie. no WS):
Row 1: k2 p2 k2 p1 k2 p2 k2
Row 2: k2 p2, sl 3 sts to cable hold at back, k2, p1 from cable, k2 from cable, p2 k2
Row 3: (as row 1)
Row 4: cr3f cr3b p1 cr3f cr3b
Row 5: p1 k4 p3 k4 p1
Row 6: p1 c4b p3 c4f p1
Row 7: (as row 5)
Row 8: cr3b cr3f p1 cr3b cr3f
Row 9: (as row 1)
Row 10: k2 p2, sl 3 sts to cable hold at front, k2, p1 from cable, k2 from cable, p2 k2
Row 11 to 16 as row 3 to 8 (alternating row 1 and 10 every set).
cr3f = sl 2 sts to cable hold at front, p1 then k2 from cable
cr3b = sl 1 st to cable hold at back, k2 then p1 from cable
10 April 2014 update
Left some provisional stitches for the afterthought heel. But when I have finished it, I found that as bed socks, they worked rather well as tubes and didn’t really need a heel. So I’m just weaving in the provisional stitches and leaving them as tubes!
Used invisible bind-off for the top, which worked quite well.
