Making regular scarf instead of cowl. Since I am making a regular scarf going to make foundation row longer. Patter suggested 140 chains for worsted yarn.
Started with foundation single crochet (instead of chains and sc) count of 176. In retrospect wish I would have actually done one more stitch as I had to change pattern a bit.
Cut yarn and started each row at beginning rather than turning and going back other way. This way the textured stitches would always be on front. Leaves more tails, but looks way better

Round 2
As instructed, except I did two double crochets in last stitch. Also not joining at end of any rounds

Round 3
As written except Instead of ending with 3 fpd’s (which doesn’t look right for regular scarf), I ended with a single crochet (reason for extra stitch in previous round).

Rest of pattern same except for extra stitch at the end. So any double crochet rows have one extra double crochet, and any rows that are same as row 3 end in single crochet.

added an extra row of single crochet, seemed to balance sides out better.

Added a round of single crochet evenly around, which really straightened up the edges nicely.

Added fringe. Made sure to keep yarn cut in order for fringe which gave a really cool graduated look with the color changes.
