After nearly 4 months of practice, Tommy D is finally walking very well on his own! Less carrying = more energy for mommy :-) I finally feel good enough to pick up my knitting.
Unfortunately as I previously expected, losing the baby weight takes a long, long time. I hesitate to make new sweaters for myself because I remain hopeful that I will be able to go back to my normal weight.
Then I found the perfect way around my dilemma! I realized I could just take my favorite sweater patterns and make them into pint size sweaters for my cute Tommy D. It’s so perfect b/c the small size shortens knitting time, translating into total instant gratification. At the same time Tommy D gets something new to wear for the winter :-)
Tommy D had a fun time modeling the sweater. He has seen me knitting this sweater for the past weekend, and has been fitted with the yarn ball still on multiple times, so he knew this was something special. As soon as grandma put the sweater on him he ran to the mirror to check it out before he came by to present himself to me.
He was very pleased with it - smiled and clapped when I ask him if he liked it.
I have never knitted a yoked sweater, since I always worry about the fit. I think this sweater could have fitted better, but the loose look is kind of cute on a toddler. I think this is such an elegant pattern, but the fingering weight yarn makes the decrease 5 pointy looking.
My enthusiasm for seamless sweater is also kind of dying down. I just don’t know how to block it well.
This is a nice color and soft yarn for baby. I still have a huge stash left, enough for one sweater a year till he is 4, haha.
Gauge:
24 sts = 4” in circular stockinette Stitch
Modification notes:
- Cast on 140 for Body, work Body without waist or back shaping.
- Cast on 30 for Sleeve, work 1-6,12th rounds Cable A, then work 2 rounds, then increase evenly to 40 sts.
- This is where I made a math mistake. I just knitted the sleeves straight, but I should have increased the sleeve to to 50 sts. If I had done this the yoke decrease later would have worked out evenly with the math. Also the upper arm would have fitted better. Currently it is a little tight. Argh. Anyway, I am going to pretend I didn’t make this mistake and record what should have happened….
- Join the sleeves and Body by joining 10 sts under each arm.
- Yoke = 120 sts + 2x40 sts = 200 sts
- Work 3 rounds
- Work cable A, work 1 round Decrease round: decrease to 160 by K3, K2Tog
- Work 1 round, work cable A, work 1 round
- Decrease round: decrease to 120 by K2, K2Tog
- Work 1 round, work cable A
- Work 2 short rows in the back for raised neck
- Decrease to 80 by K1, K2Tog
- K 1 round
- P 2 rounds
- K 1 round
- K1 P1 8 rounds, bind off.
