New year cast on. Leftover yarn from Bruce’s and Dean’s River Rock scarves.

Trying out 2-colour brioche with this hat shaping. Will see if it works.

CO 80 sts on US2.5 (3mm) needles 16” using dark navy/black colour (twisted long tail). Thought about doing long-tail tubular.

2-handed 1-pass 2-colour brioche.

Hibernated for a while.

Brioche ribbing for 7” before starting decreases.

Did alternating-row decreases with the brioche.
Row 1: Follow as per pattern except, brP3tog, in pattern to 3 sts before marker, brP3togTbl, etc. (8 sts decreased)
Row 2: brioche ribbing in pattern.

Continue decreasing per pattern and 24 sts remain. Finish per pattern.

Finished Bruce’s tuque (red)

Using MC black/navy, CO 80 sts using Japanese long-tail tubular cast on for Dean’s toque (lighter blue). Hope I have enough of the navy MC (50g). If not I will have to do 1-colour brioche with the blue CC. Not sure if it will look good that way at the top. I probably should have done a 1-colour lighter blue stripe 1” from brim instead. So really, really hoping I can win in yarn chicken for this hat.

Yarn chicken winner!! Finished without running out of the dark navy.

Gave to Bruce and Dean before taking my photos. ‍

Bruce took a fabulous photo of them wearing the toque and matching scarf.
