I was inspired by the Yarn Harlot post on August 9th of this year to try a new dishcloth stitch, and moved to try it because my sister even bought the cone of white yarn to do it.
Stephanie Pearl McPhee listed her pattern suggestions which I read at a late hour and fudged. I’ll put my version and hers here for posterity.
I cast on 31 sts and knit down and back (2 rows).
Row 3 I began the Bee Stitch with a 2 stitch garter border. Even rows were all knit.
Row 3: k3, k1below, k1 across ending with k3
Row 5: k2, k1below, k1 across ending with k2.
To end, after even row bind off with stretchy bind off (k2togtbl, put loop back on left needle and repeat).
Next time I think I’ll do this…
Yarn Harlot’s version:
Using worsted weight cotton and 4.5mm needles, cast on some stitches. I use about 30-35, but this one is 31. Choose a stitch pattern you like. This one is Bee Stitch, but you can do ANYTHING. Whatever goes in the middle, I like garter stitch borders, because I like them nice and square and finished looking. I knit six rows, then keep the first and last three stitches in garter throughout. Knit until it’s just about a square, then knit six rows. Cast off.
1/29/2014 - got a note from a recipient that affirmed the awesomeness (and the unfamiliarity with the stitch) of the Bee Stitch dishcloth. Score!
