Using 28” KB, 7/16” gauge, 8 rep x 4 + 3 = 35 pegs, and
Bulky yarn to see how it ends.
1st section gauge: 5 sts/6 rows = 1”
I’m going to work only half of the sections from the original pattern for a shorter cowl.
I charted the stitch patterns.

I’m about to finish the first stitch pattern, modifications:
14 rep of the 4 row stitch pattern, instead of 10 rep.
Gauge: 5 sts/8 rows = 1”

Finished the second stitch pattern, and I like that is faster than the first one with the YO in front of the peg.
The fabric I’m getting is thick and firm. I think this bulky yarn would work better with a 1/2” gauge loom, or even with a 5/8”, but I like that this cowl is going to be warm.

Finished the third stitch pattern. It was fast, too.

Finished the fourth stitch pattern, this is the faster one with the S1WYB (with the yarn in the back of the peg).
Now I started the grafting using the duplicate stitch:
First, I marked the right side of the cowl, cut the black yarn leaving a tail 6 times the width of the cowl, and cut the white yarn leaving a 6” tail.
After 2 rows of P1, K1 with waste yarn, I secured the stitches with a lifeline, and took the stitches off the loom.
I placed the CO edge (red) above the BO edge (yellow) facing each other, and with the right side of the cowl up.
Then I started grafting only the knit stitches from the right side with the black tail, skipping the purl stitches (the first stitch is a purl, so I skipped it, and the last stitch is a purl also).
After I finished with the right side, I flipped the cowl with the wrong side facing me, and continued grafting only the knit stitches, skipping the purl stitches from the wrong side (because they were already grafted on the right side of the cowl). The first and last stitches are purl, so I skipped them).
I took pictures to remember how I did it.

Finished today. Final measurements after blocking:
28” circumference x 6-1/2” wide.
