Notes

I’m making this as my Nakniswemo 2019 sweater. My friend Robert is participating in Nanowrimo. We’ll take the month to motivate and hold each other accountable, and then swap hobbies at the end of the month -- I get a novel to read and he gets a sweater.

I’ve been agonizing over the sizing of this sweater for the better part of this year. Robert has a 40” chest, but tends to wear his clothing a little bigger. I think I might knit the L, but drop the needle size. Theoretically, it’ll make the sweater somewhere between a M and L???

11-03-2019

I’m done with the first sleeve already!

Audiobooks: I was listening to “Last Tango in Cyberspace” but that was stupid, so I started “Call Me By Your Name.”

11-06-2019

I finished “Call Me By Your Name.” It was dramatic, hyberbolic but I really enjoyed it.

I started “The Ocean at the End of the Lane” by Neil Gaiman. The second sleeve is above my elbow and I’m about 24 rows away from finishing it.

11-07-2019

I finished the second sleeve last night and cast on 192 stitches for the body this morning. I joined them in the round without twisting them on the first try! Score!

11-08-2019

Last night I finished “Ocean at the End of the Lane” and started “The Immortalists” by Chloe Benjamin.

The body of the sweater measures almost 5 inches and I have 211 stitches on the needles. I’ve been averaging about 2,000 stitches a day and will probably do much more over the weekend. The body seems like it’ll be the most difficult part of the sweater (because it’s boring,) but this whole project seems like it’s going faster than it should.

11-10-2019

I finished “The Immortalists” and started “The Power” by Naomi Alderman. I have about 9.5 inches of the body knitted. I’m aiming for 14.25 inches, adding one inch for length. Some project notes have stated that the body is too short, and when I made Rift a couple years ago for a friend, my friend said it was a little too short.

11-11-2019

I’m at 13 inches on the body and about to tie on a third skein. I’m about 2 hours into “The Power.” I’ve also been doing my yearly Harry Potter watch party. I always watch all eight movies around the time when I do the most knitting for Christmas. The movies have some great knitwear!

11-13-2019

Today I bound off the center neckline stitches and I’m halfway through “The Power.” I’m really hoping this sweater blooms pretty hard. I’m so nervous about the alterations I’ve made for the fit, but I am following my intuition!

11-15-2019

We’re halfway through the month and the sleeves are attached. I’m starting the second set of short rows. I finished “The Power” and started “The Water Dancer” by Ta-Nehisi Coates!

11-18-2019

I’m at the yoke decreases and listening to “Night Circus” by Erin Morgenstern. I both like and dislike that “Night Circus” is narrated by Jim Dale, who narrated all of the Harry Potter books. He uses some of his Harry Potter voices for Night Circus characters and it’s a little disorienting!

11-20-2019

I finished The Night Circus and started “Big Little Lies” by Liane Moriarty. I have less than 200 stitches on my needles for the first time in 2 weeks.

11-22-2019

I’m about a third of the way through “Big Little Lies” and ready to pick up a bunch of stitches for the collar!

11-23-2019

I’ve finished “Big Little Lies” and the short rows on the collar and I’m about to start “Caraval” by Stephanie Garber. Don’t know what the book’s about, but I’ve heard good things. I’m trying to make the collar extra cozy and might have made it too long in the back!

11-24-2019

Finished the collar, gave it a bath and laid it flat on some blocking boards. It bloomed a little when I soaked it! I’m still nervous about the size, and I definitely did too many short rows on the back collar.

November 30, 2019

Robert got his sweater in the mail today!! He says it fits great and looks great! I’m so happy! It looks so nice!!

His one complaint is that the yarn is a little scratchy. I will use a softer yarn next time!
