For Christmas 2015, I was going to make dishcloths for my family, as well as my boyfriend’s. However, since our move to Florida, my boyfriend decided to order all of his family’s presents online and have them shipped to them directly. Christmas came and went and his family’s dishcloths are still here. Oh well. They’ll just be here for next year!
This project is an ongoing saga. My great-grandmother taught me how to knit dishcloths when I was 12 years old. She would always knit them for family members for Christmas and everyone would always look forward to them. When she died, I started knitting them. I knit at least 28 dishcloths per year -- 4 for each nuclear family within my extended family. Knitting them some years have been more difficult than others, but it has gotten easier since I’ve been out of college and now that I’m only working one job.
I have 24 dishcloths going into 2016, which means I only need to make 4 this year. My boyfriend bought me a cone of cotton yarn for Christmas, so I don’t need to buy any yarn. We see a lot of movies together, and I’ve gotten to the point where I can literally knit these in the dark. Since I don’t need to worry over these dishcloths as much anymore, I can pick up some projects that have been hibernating, or even start some new ones with my massive stash of sock yarn!

I have 32 dishcloths now. I’ve been knitting them exclusively in movie theaters.

I got up to 40 dishcloths, and my mom came to visit me in Florida and took 28 with her to give out at Christmas. So I’m back down to 12 for next year.
My boyfriend got me a cone of cotton yarn, so a lot of next year’s will be all the same color.
