I spotted this cute pattern in a December 1947 Workbasket magazine and decided to give it a try using size 0 needles instead of size 1. I also made a couple of mods.
Instead of joining the red at the working end, I slid the knitting to the other side of my dpn and joined it there. That way I wouldn’t have to re-join the white, but could just start do the next rib row wiht the already connected yarn. Instead of a knit row next I did a purl row and did the increases in the next knit row for a total of three stockinette stitch rows instead of four.
I followed the pattern unti it said, “Continue on these 10 sts for 6 more rows.” I only did two more rows.“ The mini dolls have short litlte hands.
I turned the mitten inside out after pulling up the end and stitched a seam from cuff to tip going around the thumb. I think I will leave a longer red yarn end on the next one, so I can crochet a cord to join the mittens together. I remember my mittens having that cord in the 60’s, so I wouldn’t loose them.

Second mitten finished and attached to the first. They are just too cute! Merryn modeled them until I can get Mini Molly out and dressed for cooler weather. I think Mini Maryellen will like these to wear with her skating outfit too.
I wound up not cutting the red end and using it to crochet the cord to attach them. I used a size 7 crochet hook and I think 50 chains.
They are hard to get on and require a bit, OK quite a bit, of szhuzhing to get them to look right on her hands, but it’s definitely worth it.
