Notes

After having made several very simple stockinette hats, I wanted to try something a bit fancier looking. I like this pattern: the twists give it nice texture without looking too cable-heavy.

This hat was donated with several others to a local charity that distributes them at its free health clinics and soup kitchens.

Imperfections

  • I had to look up the “right twist” switch (basically a 1x1 cable without needing to hold any stitches off of the needle). I actually did it wrong for most of the pattern: I was twisting the second stitch of the right twist (so the first stitch on the left needle). Things got quite tight and not sliding as easily; once I started not twisting the stitch it loosened up a bit.

  • I used a stiff acrylic yarn, and the decreases resulted in stiff peaks instead of smoothly decreasing like in the pattern photos.
