Double knit pot holder. Cotton yarn can be washed and won’t melt.
I was using my smallest needle (2+ sizes smaller than label recommended) and still the gauge was bigger than I wanted, so I knitted with intentionally tight tension which left the center more narrow than the edges. I think blocking will fix much of it, though.
Cast on 70 stitches of front color (33 + 2 selvage stitches for each side). Both sides of the double-knit fabric are stockinette following color chart.
Selvage: slip last two stitches (last stitch on each side of double-knit fabric), and then work the first two stitches of the next row in opposite color yarn.
Cast off: (In front color) work first stitch; work next stitch then previous stitch over it and off the right needle. Continue until done then pull yarn through last stitch to secure.
Hanging loop: I just crochet chained some stitches to make a loop and attached with a slip stitch then weaved in ends. But it doesn’t feel too sturdy.
Duplicate-stitch decals (cat and hen): I left loose ends between layers of double-knit fabric. Hoping they don’t ever poke out.
