Shawls take a long time! I made an Echo Flower shoulderette last year, which is how I know I love lace, yet somehow I wasn’t expecting this relatively simple pattern to take so long. But it is about 81,000 stitches by my calculations, so it makes sense. The first two thirds of the pattern are mostly stockinette (with some yarnovers), which drag on a bit, but the pay off is the elm leaf edging.

I did realize about halfway that the two hanks of Alpaca Cloud Lace that I got on sale in a discontinued color might not be enough for the full shawl. Luckily I found someone on eBay selling 3 hanks of the color (same dye lot!) at a reasonable price. I ended up using about 18g of one of the eBay hanks to finish the edging, and now I have enough green laceweight for a second shawl…

I got to try out my lace blocking wires from knitpicks. I don’t know if it was any faster than using individual pins, but it made it easier to keep everything even.
