This project was really a practice before I cast on the Embrace Octopus Sweater (plus something I thought I might be able to finish before Christmas), but it is a very cool pattern in its own right!

Total yarn used (my finished gauge/size is close to what the pattern specifies): 45g of each color.

Lining: I lined the mittens with a polar fleece fabric (just whip stitched it to the top of the doubled cuff).

12/15: began swatching. After 2”, US3 is clearly giving too loose of gauge. Switching to US2.

12/17: oops, just noticed I knit the cuff in reverse colors of the pattern. I found several projects on ravelry that also did not do the contrasting cuff and it looks fine (https://www.ravelry.com/projects/AmyJohanna/octopus-mittens), so I’ll keep going.

Instead of picking up and knitting the cast on edge, I’m just picking up and knitting together before doing the last row of cuff chart.

Love these doubled cuffs!

Thumb: picked up 2 stitches on either side of gap (rather than 1) and decreased them on second round.

12/23: finished right hand! Tension between colors is a bit wonky, but I think blocking will even things out. Still need to decide if I’m going to line them with fleece… it seems a bit large, so I’m thinking I should.

12/30: I finally cast on for the left hand!
