I didn’t manage to finish these by Christmas, but got them done for my mom’s birthday.
The graphical panel is of course the highlight of this pattern, even if mine turned out a little lumpy, but I actually really love the lozenge pattern on the palm of the mittens: fun to knit, looks neat, and easy to maintain float tension.
Cast on: long-tail tubular cast on (so easy and effective!): https://www.purlsoho.com/create/long-tail-tubular-cast-on...

I cast on with US 1.5 needles first because 10 sts/inch seems a bit tight for US 2. After finishing the first cuff:
- The unblocked gauge is a little tight: about 10.5 sts/inch
- I messed up the length of the vertical lines in one of the cuff repeats (though it’s not noticeable)
- Where I caught floats in one of the rows looks a little messy on the right side
I’m going start over doing ribbing with US 1.5 and the rest of the mitten with US 2.

Finished cuff again and like it much better this time!

I finished the first mitten except for the thumb. The palm pattern looks good, but the graphic is somewhat ruffled/wonky… hoping for good results after blocking!
I have picked up stitches for the thumb and am knitting it with double-pointed needles… my first time ever using dpns!

Finished thumb on dpns… it was chaotic but it worked. I will block this first mitten tomorrow and see if the colorwork lumps flatten out

The colorwork is much flatter after blocking, but there are still some lumps (I think where the lbj ladders are… I might be over using that technique)
I’m making these as a gift for my mom but I am not going to finish the pair by Christmas (tomorrow!). My goal will be by the end of the year instead… or at least by epiphany.

I finally cast on the second mitten!

Well, I got distracted by other projects, but I’ve returned to this one and finally finished the main part of the second mitten. I still need to pick up and knit the thumb.

Finished the thumb on the right mitten. Now just to block it and give it to my mom!
