I’m not actually knitting this project. I’m making 7” Tunisian crochet squares with my size J Tunisian hook. For me and my tension that works out to about 27sts by 23rows.
(I have also uploaded Penguineer’s original afghan chart with directional arrows for the orientation for each square if that helps anyone else with their afghan.)
(Also for the diagonal squares I’m using another free Ravelry pattern found HERE)
12/20/15 -- I have gotten a lot of views on this project and realized there is a lot of information I never shared about this project. So I figured I’d do it now. Hopefully it will help.
- So as stated above I used Tunisian crochet to create my squares.
- They are all 27sts by 23 rows.
- I left a long tail at the beginning and the end that I used to sew them all together.
- I used a simple whip stitch and made sure that I went through both loops of the stitch (otherwise it pulled and looked weird, you’ll be able to tell that it’s not right immediately if you miss that second loop.)
- I had to go down to a H-hook for the crocheted border.
- The border is just a simple single crochet all the way around.
- I used black yarn for the border on three edges and white on the fourth.
- Because this is acrylic I didn’t “block” it. I washed and dried it and that made the edges (mostly) stop curling.
If you have any questions about my project don’t be afraid to ask. I’m always available via PM. :D
