4 Feb 2014 - testing gauge

23 March 2014 - I frogged and reknit the sleeves once to make them wider at the upper arm (evenly distributing 12 backwards loop M1s) and then another time to make them 3/4 sleeves, which required more rapid decreases (every 6th row instead of every 12th) to look right.

I frogged and reknit the body because I thought it looked lumpy and overbulky without any body shaping (body shaping is only included for the women’s sizes). I did decreases at each edge of the front and each edge of the back for a total of 4 dec every 12th row. I ended with a k1, p1 ribbing because I didn’t like the way the seed stitch edge has a natural tendency to turn up toward the knitted side of the stockinette. Then I frogged it all because I decided I had done about 2 sets of decreases too many with the body shaping.

So I frogged back to remove the ribbing and 2 sets of decreases, but have been looking for some other way to end the sweater body that’s not k1, p1 nor yet the specified seed stitch that I didn’t like.

I’ve been leafing through Barbara Walker’s treasury of knitting patterns to find a fancier ribbing and as soon as I can stop snickering at the ones called “faggoting,” I’ll try one out.

28 March 2014 - “Razor Shell” made a nice lace ribbing.
