Test knit for Jennifer Weissman

According to other Ravelers, this superwash yarn will grow a ridiculous amount once wet blocked. So I compensated for that by working it with smaller needles than the ball band recommends. It is somewhat stiff to work up, but it should be just wonderful and warm when the cowl is completed.

I started with size 7 needles and worked the bottom’s garter band in it, but I thought they would be a bit too small for working the cabled section, so I went up to a size 8 needle for the body. The top’s garter band was worked on size 5 needles. I needed to reduce an extra 8 sts above the cable panels to control flaring. To keep it stretchy enough to go over the head, I used the Chinese Waitress Cast off method.

When it was wet, it stretched out quite big! Instead of blocking it flat in the two recommended positions, I decided to block it to shape directly on my dress mannequin. Drying popped it right back to almost the original dimensions again (I was surprised)! The fabric, though, is now wonderful and soft.
