Test knit for Jennifer Weissman

Deadline: July 28, 2023

This was so super fun to make! It’s addictive - I might cast on another one (as soon as I finish Jennifer’s other test that I’m currently in). The pattern - like all of Jennifer Weissman’s patterns - is extremely well written! And the results are amazing. The design BEGS for colors to be explored and experimented with. Subtle color-combos would work just as well as vivid, psychodelic ones! Both sides of the design are equally lovely. This would be a great pattern for a first-time-briocher to use. I can see myself turning to this pattern time and again whenever I need to make a gift. And it’s so attractive that I bet any I make for my charity’s annual fundraiser would Sell! Like! Hotcakes! pancakes

PROJECT NOTES

Black MC was four strands held together: the Zephyr was N-plied and then carried beside a single strand of the Pino Mink. Because of this, the yardage above is ONLY AN ESTIMATE.

I should’ve weighed the skein of Ecco before I started. I’d bought it from the clearance bin at a LYS and there was some minor insect damage. A full skein of this yarn should’ve been sufficient, but I ran out a couple rounds short. So now I’m wondering if the store cut off some more damaged stuff. Also, the overall cowl weighs 133g, implying there was much less than a full 50g in that skein of Ecco. I had to use about 10 yds of some plain cream colored yarn that blended well colorwise to finish the last couple rounds of CC. (Specifically, I used some Filatura Lanarota Pure Washable Merino. It was a bit too heavy, though. So I pulled out 1 of the plies and it worked great.)

There was so much contrast between my MC and CC, that I struggled to weave in the ends invisibly. In the end, I resorted to tinting the loose ends with a black Sharpie marker. I hope that ink doesn’t degrade the merino wool - time will tell!
