Notes

A new and interesting way to work garter buttonband edges. (Each row starts with a sl1-kwise and then ends with a kfb, k2tog-tbl.) I love when I learn something new!

This was a satisfying project - an intuitive texture that kept things interesting but didn’t require glancing back at the instructions.

Yoke Mod: I didn’t like the overall silhouette with the increases as written. The shoulder was very ‘pointy’ and angled.
So I frogged back to the beg of the third inc row and only increased 22 sts instead of 42 as foll: K5, *k6, yo; rep from * 11 times, k7, yo, **k6, yo; rep from ** 10 times, k11 = 171 sts.
Then on the final repetition of the 8 rows I inc’d 12 sts in row 3 (instead of working it straight as written) as foll: K14, *yo, k13; rep from * 6 times, k14, **yo, k13; rep from ** 6 times, k14 = 183 sts. (Note: this is less than the 191 sts as written, but mine seemed big for a newborn size and I thought 183 sts was better.)

I started out making my my buttonholes every 10 garter ridges (i.e.20 rows), but it wasn’t going to work out nicely so I frogged back and left only two buttonholes. The instructions are written for a traditionally ‘girl’ cardigan with the buttonholes on the right front, but it would be extremely easy to make this a unisex design and place them on the left front instead.

Body mod: I cast on 8 sts at the underarms instead of just 6 sts to get me back to the 119 sts as written. (The yoke mod above required this.)

Sleeves: I needed to pick up 8 sts at the underarm to get me to the 48 sts as written. However, 48 sts seems a bit big to me. I dec’d to 36 sts, working the last rep on smaller size US 3 needles. I knit an extra round and then bound off knitwise at the cuff. The sleeves might be a tiny bit short, but this is a jacket - not a cardigan - and doesn’t have any ribbing at the cuff so maybe it’s totally fine.

Note: I believe this pattern is the same as the Sorgenfri mini, so I listed that pattern as a ‘second’ pattern used. I bought my pdf through the designer’s website before I realized I could’ve bought it via Ravelry.
