Notes

I’d like to try backstrap weaving, and since I don’t have anything suitable to act as backstrap, why not make one on the rigid heddle loom! Thanks to my sis, I’m equipped with the appropriate shuttle, too.

I warped the 10dpi heddle with 37 ends with 8/4 cotton (Drops Loves You 7 4-ply in Enamel blue, Opal green, Light peach, and Cherry, 18wpi).

My little colour design turned out well, but the band turned out much narrower than I had expected. I experimented with a couple of approaches for getting the selvedges even - I must say, I expected it to look far worse on my first try, so I’m very happy with the result. I learned not to let the weft smush the selvedge warps. I also learned that I need to calculate more warp waste at the end since weaving right up to the heddle isn’t possible. I nonetheless ended up with a 107cm length fresh off the loom - I’m satisfied!

Used the same yarn in Wheat and Pearl for another band, 39 warps wide, 1.87m length FOTL
