First time trying the pinwheels pattern - aiming to make a kind of tote bag with this cloth.
With my current set up, my heddle only provided the two plain weave picks of the pattern - the rest was woven manually with a pick up stick. Since that was time consuming, I decided to try a simple pick up stick pattern for the back of the bag - the smaller floats would make it sturdier too. The pinwheels section turned out wonderfully drapey. The plain weave sections will serve as the sturdy bottom of the bag, as well as a sturdy place to attach the handles.
I used Stylecraft Life DK in cranberry and oatmeal (75% acrylic, 25% wool).
I learned the pattern sequence from Loops and Leather’s YouTube pinwheels tutorial.
After deliberation with my mum and sewing collaborator, the next step will be for me to weave some pure cranberry side panels to give the bag extra volume. 10dpi, 35 slots, 17cm wide, 166cm warp length.
I was convinced I’d have enough leftover cranberry to make the whole panel, warp and weft, but I ran out! Maybe I beat too hard at the beginning, but in any case, luckily I had some of the oats left, and I went for my favourite colour transition pattern.
My mum then sewed the bag together, surpassing herself yet again!! She sewed some strong cream cotton cloth into it as well with plenty of handy inner pockets, and a sturdy plastic bottom!
