Joining into the RHL group Oct ‘24 weave along fun - my RHL is occupied right now but I thought I could make a sample on the frame loom for now so I can try out the pattern. It’s fun!
A consultation with my yarn stash had me settle on the gorgeous Drops Lima in Olive (wool-alpaca blend) and I went with Stylecraft Life DK in Oatmeal (acrylic-wool blend) for the second colour - they are both 15wpi and even though they aren’t high contrast, I thought they have a good chance of looking good together. Due to the yarn weight, I forced my frame loom to go with an EPI that’s in between 7.5 and 10dpi, and it worked out well to balance the pattern. I however ended up with 7 threads per colour before changing.
Finished the sample and will probably wet finish this to test how the two yarns fare together in water.
Not sure what full on project I’ll do with this (if any), but would need to go with a thicker yarn if I go with the 7.5dpi heddle on the RHL - would make the weaving go faster too.
I made a second sample (full width on the frame loom in the hope I can make this into something) using chunky yarn this time (Stylecraft Softie Chunky in Cream and Oats, 10wpi) - this works on 7.5dpi and the Oats (which I have found a disappointing colour) actually looks nice in this combo.
I could well imagine weaving a 6 harness houndstooth scarf with chunky yarn on my rigid heddle…. perhaps with a more natural yarn (Drops Andes perhaps though that’s 7wpi)…
For comparison and to satisfy my curiosity, I’ve sketched out the 4 different versions of a 4 harness houndstooth.
