Got some beautiful second hand slub yarn - it came without a label but I’m pretty certain it’s cotton.

When I first sampled it on a light blue warp, I liked how it looked, so I decided to use it on another pastel colour warp, but this time in peach/pink (cotton). The idea was to go for a morning sky vibe, which is why I opted to add the candy (pinker cotton, Emu Cotton DK, 13wpi) into the peach (Cygnet 100% cotton DK, 15wpi).

I didn’t have much of the slub yarn, but I didn’t know how much/little, and I wanted to make something as big as possible. I therefore made an extra long warp, and wove till I couldn’t weave any more, i.e. the slub yarn ran out.

On the remaining warp, I decided to try another pickup pattern, and I went with the fourth pattern on Ashford’s pickup pattern blog:

https://www.ashford.co.nz/fun-with-pickup-sticks-part-1/

I liked how it looked like little windows. I tried out a bunch of my stash yarns and settled on an acrylic - Woolcraft New Fashion in cream, 15wpi.

After it came off the loom and I cut the two pieces apart, I twisted the fringes - finer fringes for the pickup pattern piece, thicker ones for the slub yarn piece.

Sizes after wet finishing:

Slub yarn mat: 78 x 32 cm + 5cm fringes
Pickup pattern mat: 54 x 35 cm + 5cm fringes
