Kept playing with these flowers I made that hide the tails of the yarn so nicely. Tried adding a granny square border to each with a join as you go technique. The original seven sat by my favorite chair for so long that I finally decided to at least try making a scarf out of them. When I got it long enough to try on, it settled around my neck the same way as every other scarf I don’t wear. But I had just seen a pattern for a hood going around, and decided to try it that way. LOL. But with a center column of hexagons joining it, it became wearable pushed off my head. After modeling it, I decided that the edge hexagons needed the structure of a border round of sc. Could not believe that I had a ball of color left that had not been used on any of the outer rounds. Used that. Will see if I wear.

I still don’t love that it is hard to keep the tail ends from popping out with the dc border. Same thing that keeps me from loving granny square projects. That was the whole point of the flower design that could completely contain ends. And since I reused yarn previously cut for the square version attempt, I had more ends to hide where I had to join more to finish rounds.

Notes on original flowers:

Caron Simply Soft and size G hook. My flowers basically go like this. Standard circle BUT weave the beginning tail of the magic circle through the first dc and actually knot it to the ending tail to keep the circle drawn up tight against the tug of the weight of the fabric. Petals are worked BETWEEN the dc spaces, sc1 dc1 tr1 dc1 sc1 in each space around. Fasten off.

Flower border is 3dc in center of each petal, ch1 around. slip together to join. To join, insert hook through dc of second motif with right side facing then continue to work dc on current hexagon. Ch1 between clusters as usual. Join two clusters per side.

Sc outer border is one sc per straight edge dc and ch spaces. Work sc two together at valleys with one pull through in each hexagon. Work sc1, ch1, sc1 in each outer corner. Join and fasten off.
