Had this other shade of the Bernat Baby Sport and wanted to make another cardigan to keep for myself =) I wanted it to be a skosh smaller, and I wanted to leave the back for last so that when I ran out of yarn I could fill in with the remaining white for an intentional color block look. There was only one skein of this on the shelf or I would have bought more. My hook just says G, so I selected the first option for G hook sizes in the drop down menu. Writing up pattern as I go.
My pattern with notes:
Front(make two): foundation single crochet 60. (I usually lose count when I am working fsc, so I work until it also measures the 19” I am going for and add a stitch or two just in case that I pick back out at the end if I don’t need. Can actually be helpful when I can close a side seam with that yarn instead of adding another knot.) Ch 1, turn.
Pattern stitch: Alternate sc1, dc1 across. Ch1, turn. (Notes: On second and all rows after that, sc is worked in dc, and dc is worked in sc. Even number of stitches means every row starts with an sc and ends with a dc.)
Neck shaping: When piece measures 13” begin neck shaping at end of row by stopping with last sc and not working last dc. Ch1, turn. Sc in next dc, skipping last sc of previous row, and continue in pattern. Do this neck edge every row until fasten off. (I like to begin the neck shaping on the opposite side of the work from the original tail so I can bury those tails in the side seams.)
Shoulder shaping: When piece measures 17” begin shoulder shaping by stopping with an sc 5 short at arm edge of row. Ch1, turn. Work sc in next dc as for neck shaping.
Continue both decreases until 11 stitches left. Break yarn and fasten off. (This puts the tail in the shoulder seam instead of at the neck edge.)
The difference between the front and back of this piece aren’t noticeable enough to bother me even at the foundation, so I made both fronts exactly the same. It would be easy enough to start the other side one row sooner or later to get the shaping on the other edge.
Back: Foundation single crochet 110 sts. (Aiming for 36” to be a little less than the two fronts side by side so that they will overlap.) Ch1, turn. Work alternate sc1, dc1 pattern with ch1, turn until work is 17”.
(WOW! Found another skein of Coral Crocus and it seems to match. Would have started the back panel with a separate skein so there would be no join if I had it from the beginning, but am going to make this all the same color after all. Does take a second skein of yarn.)
Shoulder decreases: At this point I like to mark the middle and four inches to each side of the middle to orient myself where the neck will be. Work decreases as for fronts (stop five stitches short with an sc, chain one, turn, skip first sc, resume pattern with sc in next dc), five decreases each end. Only work 11 sts of the next row, fasten off. Count over 12 stitches from end and work 11 stitches for other side of neck. Fasten off.
Attach at shoulders and for 7 inches along side seams from hem. I like to chain slip the pieces together because I think the sturdiness and stretch that gives is worth the trade off in bulkiness. But use any method you like.
Neck edge. Begin at bottom edge with right side facing. Slip to join, then work ch1, sc1 around, evenly spaced. I put an sc into every other row on straight rows, in the middle dips and outer bumps of neck shaping, and every other stitch neck back. End with sc in foundation row other corner. Ch1 turn. Work ch1, sc1 into ch1 space below across. I worked five more rows for a total of 7. Fasten off.
Armhole edge. With right side facing, work sc at side seam, then ch1 sc1 around. End with a chain, then a slip stitch into the beginning sc. Ch 1, turn. Sc into the next chain space after the next sc, and work pattern around, ending chain one, slip stitch. Intentionally losing one sc each round to shape armholes. Work three more rows for total of five. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

There’s a couple of photos I would like to include that aren’t showing up in my choices, at least yet. I will add them if I remember.
