Notes

I’m so glad that I made a small sampler before starting on the main blanket as it took me a few attempts to arrange the colours in a sequence which I found pleasing on the eye. I finally settled on:

Rows 1 and 2: Cream
Row 3: Charcoal
Rows 4 and 5: Beige
Row 6: Charcoal
Row 7: Cream
Rows 8 and 9: Light Brown
Row 10: Cream
Row 11: Charcoal
Rows 12 and 13: Rust
Row 14: Chocolate Brown
Rows 15 and 16: Light Beige Brown
Row 17: Charcoal
Row 18: Cream
Rows 19 and 20: Chocolate Brown
Row 21: Rust
Row 22: Light Beige Brown

I repeated the sequence five times in total and then added two extra rows of cream before working the border in charcoal.

My foundation chain was 336 (24 x 14) + 3 = 339.

This produced a blanket which was 225 cm wide x 156 cm high (including a 5 cm border all round).

Edging:

I worked a row of (UK) double crochets right round the blanket to create a base for the border and then used different height stitches to fill in the valleys on the wavy edges in round 2:
dc x1, htr x2, tr x2, dtr x4, tr x2, htr x2, dc x1

The straight sides and following rounds were worked in htr.

The final decorative edging was worked as follows:

3 ch and 3 tr worked into the first htr, * miss next 3 htr, work (1 dc, 3 ch, 3 tr) all in the next htr; repeat from * to last 3 htr, miss last 3 htr, 1 dc to join to the base of the first stitch and then fasten off.
