No pattern is really needed for this. Just chain around to fit your head snuggly but not too tight. Give yourself plenty of room, with some stretch to it but make sure it is not too loose. I think I started with 70 chains and then started adjusting from there. I made alternating rows of single crochet, and double crochet. I started and ended with a single crochet row. Make it as narrow or as wide as you like. Once you have it the width you want, put right sides together and join with a slip stich. Once joined, flip to the right side. On the wrong side, where, on the seam where you just joined, pinch together to form a pleat and tack down. Then make your “knot. It is a simple rectangle using the same stitch pattern as the band. I do my stitches on the long edge of the rectangle so that the stitches of my “knot” will be perpendicular to my band. I start with about 15-17 chains for a regular width band and about 20-22 for a wide ear warmer. Do enough rows to make a nice sized knot. When finished, fold over your seam where you pleated your ear warmer. Fold your ends over each other and stitch together on the back side. Tack to the back side of the ear warmer to keep your knot from shifting and slipping around. Be creative!!! Use your favorite stitches and see what you come up with. The widest one in my photo is all double crochet in the back loop only to give a ribbed effect.
