Notes

My friend Frannie and I knit this as a thank you gift for our friends in Palm Springs. We raided our stash, bought a few more suitable yarns and took turns knitting. I started on March 1 and knit for a few days, Frannie knit while I was on holiday for ten days and then I finished it when I came back. It was a quick and easy knit and since most of the colors are not ones that either of us would normally use it was a really welcome change from the usual. We used colors from the desert landscape, our friends’ house and yard and pool, and in particular a painting they purchased while we were visiting.
To knit, leave a 9” piece, knit garter stitch, leave another 9” piece. Tie the fringe together every three rows as you go along and trim the fringe to 8” at the end.
We used only cotton, rayon, hemp and a bit of silk and sea cel so that the blanket wouldn’t be itchy when wearing shorts.
The fibres used and the thick/thin variation in the yarns insured that the blanket wouldn’t be too hot. The alternating thin yarns allowed for ventilation.
If a yarn was too thin we combined it with another thin yarn or used two strands of the same yarn held together. Made for more color variations as well. As for choosing which color came next I used advice that I learned in a Brandon Mably workshop. He told us that each color should look fabulous with the one next to it.
