This yarn is a very tweedy alpaca. It seems to be about a sport weight, and I have about 2400 yards -- way more than I’ll need for this.
I’m modifying Mmario’s Chaos Tart -- a Shawlmas 2013 pattern -- into a poncho because the recent bout without power during the ice storm, and now sub zero weather makes me want something warm to surround me and not fall off.
I know the yarn will not do the pattern justice, and I sincerely regret that because I do like showcasing the patterns, but warmth is triumphing at the moment. Update: I think the yarn did not detract from the lace as I feared. I think I will like it.
I have CO 96 sts. Join.
k1, p1 for 3 rounds.
(k1, V) around for 144 sts
Go to pattern.
Rnd 19: k
and follow chart starting on Rnd 20.
Beads are being added to rnds 20-38 as a decorative collar and I have not decided about a few at the bottom yet.
Beads also added to rnds 144-152 although perhaps 150 to 158 may have been better.
Also beaded bindoff. slip into st, pull up thread loosely, add bead, chain one, slip into next st, pull through as to slip st, bead, chain one, etc. at points, chained 3 with bead in middle, at valleys, did not chain between binding off or bead, so 7 beads per each of the 96 peaks.
All together maybe 1900 beads.
Sc around neck for stability. Rnd 1: sc in each st. Rnd 2: (sc in next st 2 times, sk next st) around to tighten up neck opening.
Blocking: Used about two dozen pins to set neck opening before pulling edges out. Threaded blocking wires through picots at points … 9 points per wire overlapping one on each end. Pulled out each wire to 33” from neck pins. Then pulled out sides of each point with six additional pins at beads.
