Working with a handspun yarn is always a delightful challenge! Each handspun yarn has its own particular characteristics, especially if we are speaking of textured yarns. Textured/Art yarns have special pattern requirements. The pattern has to be simple enough to let the yarn be the star, but it also has to be interesting even if in only one of its features!
I love mixing industrial yarns with handspun yarns. The industrial yarn gives the project stability and the handspun gives it personality! When I saw the yarn “in person” I realized that I had the perfect match for it.. Malabrigo Chunky in the Sealing Wax color - it perfectly matched the first section of coils! Destiny!
Here I was looking for a shallow triangular shape for a shawl/shawlette. The yarns are both rather heavy so to keep it from weighing the wearer down, I was looking for a medium size. Enough to wrap around the shoulders or to create an interesting cowl effect around the neck.
I am pretty pleased with the results! It is essentially reversible, being worked in garter stitch. I love the way Weird has spun this yarn in a rainbow of colors that reverses direction at mid skein! I originally had a different pattern in mind, but when I saw the yarn I really wanted to showcase the rainbow of colors and coils! I particularly love the two colored coils! they almost look hand painted! Kudos to Weird!
