Notes

I made this sweater for Faith. She’s a 5-6 pound Chihuahua. The back measures 11 inches plus the crochet edging and the belly measures 9 inches plus the crochet edging.

Cast on 40 stitches, do 2 by 2 ribbing for about an inch.
Knit one row while adding 1 stitch every other stitch so you have 60 stitches total.

Switch to black and purl across row. Knit next row. Purl next row (I put them on a circular needle here and used it as my stitch holder for the next part)
Knit 35 stitches (Put these on your straight needle). Leave remaining stitches on circular needle, push them to middle and leave them dangling.

Knit one row, purl the next (Garter stitch) until back measures 11 inches. Bind off

Now you will create garter stitch with the 25 remaining stitches you left on your circular needle. I transfer them to my straight needles and knit or purl each row until it measures 9 inches. Bind off

Add decorative trim. I crocheted a row of pink in SC. Then I row in v stitch and last row I put three DC in top of each V stitch with a ch 1 between.
