Gauge: going down 2 needle sizes to get the right gauge. It’s worth persevering with the gauge: I thought a 3.75mm was ok, but the gauge and fabric is so much better with a 3.5mm (for me, that is!).
Sizing: casting on for the XS size, then sizing up to the S to make it slightly less flarey (is that a word?) After some confusion about the sizing on the bottom cast-on edge on the chart, I’ve realised that you have to then take into account the +9.25” positive ease along this edge… I think!
Straps: Knitted mine 0.5” extra (just to be safe). I’ve braided them quite firmly, right to the very end; then I’ve kind of spread out the cast off edges and mattress-stitched them to the 24 cast off stitches each side of the back. This gives the back the same ‘look’ as the front, and you can then ease each braid along to even them up. Not sure if that makes sense…
Washing now and hang-blocking it on the line: will probably then damp-press it, especially along the lace edging. Fingers crossed it’ll grow enough in length.
Next day: well, the hang-blocking didn’t work all that well, so I’m blocking flat now to try to get some length. I’ve knitted the length as in the pattern, but I’m struggling to achieve the neckline to hem measurement (should be 23.25”, I’ve got 22”): this is probably due to my yarn sub. And I’m thinking I should have gone for the full bottom-edge cast on for my size…
13.5: Doubters: go for the flare! I should have kept to the pattern and, another time, I’ll go for some linen or silk yarn for extra drape.
Overall: a really lovely pattern and fit, and the yarn is beautiful: light and springy, holds its shape very well and in a wonderful cool grey/blue shade.
ps I look a bit orange in these photos, not sure why: no fake-bake has been involved.
