I bought this yarn from a funny little shop that was closing down in Hornsea, East Yorkshire; what I would call an old-style ‘wool shop’, which also sold fabric and picture frames. I hadn’t come across this KC Masham before; the colours were a bit limited but I absolutely loved this green - sort of verging on dark duck egg/sage. Anyway, the yarn was half price, so I bought roughly enough for a cardigan or pullover.
I really like this very plain cardigan design, with the addition of the shoulder and neckline details. I think I might add some embellishments… perhaps embroidery? I will see how things develop…
1.1: picking up the sts for the collar, I’m finding the pick-up stitch count (64 sts) from the rib up to the front slopes a bit odd; I tried picking 2 sts for every 3 rows (as was also suggested) making 78 sts, but this still isn’t enough, making the ribbing way too taut. So I’ve ended up picking 1 stitch for every row up to the 1st marker (approx. 118 sts), approx. 2 sts for every 3 rows up the neck slopes, 1 st for every st across the back of the neck.
Mods: exactly as the pattern (including body/sleeve length - unusual for me), though I’ve picked up more sts for the collar (as above), and used 6 buttons rather than 5. I’ve also picked up more sts at the armholes, really according to what felt right; 37 sts each side of the shoulder 3 held sts, then reducing down on the next row to 34 sts, ie the next size up (I knitted one round before the sleeve cap shaping to do this).
Yarn: quite like this yarn: feels to be at the softer end of ‘rustic’, though a little unevenly spun here and there.
FO: love it! the fitted shape and its overall simplicity. I passed on the embroidery idea, thinking instead that I would choose some interesting buttons. A couple of choices didn’t quite work (ordering buttons online is a risky business!), and I’ve ended up using 6 odd buttons from stash.
