After dithering a bit and trying out Marie’s Moraig (whose gauge I was waaay out for - the pattern is for Rowan Fine Tweed), I’m going for this traditional Norwegian pattern which I think will be perfect for the Norwegian wool.
The Sandnesgarn Sisu of the original is the same yardage as the Finullgarn and classed as ‘heavy fingering’, which I would say the Finullgarn tends towards. I’ve got perfect gauge with it, so hopefully this will turn out a success size-wise.
Mods: slightly longer in the body for the medium size. Used a 2.75mm needle (rather than a 2.5mm) for the ribbing.
Pattern: very basic details, but all the info is there. It doesn’t state where to place the BOR marker for the yoke, but I’ve gone for the back left side, at the beginning of where the left sleeve stitches are joined. There is always a very slight jog in the pattern and I’d rather have it here than in the centre back.
Decreasing for the yoke: details for this aren’t supplied, only that you decrease x number of sts evenly. The maths you need is: eg decrease 36 sts evenly (as in the pattern) from 378 sts (M) to 342 sts. 378-(36x2)/36=8.5 sts, which means the interval between decreases is alternately 8, then 9. So you would work (k8, k2tog, k9, k2tog), repeat to end. Always subtract twice the number of sts to be decreased from the total, then divide by the number of sts to be decreased. If you end up with a figure like 8.5 (as above) for the interval, you need to alternate between the higher and lower figure. I think this is right… I need a little lie down now, says Brain…
FO dream sequence: wearing my new Marius genser, I am aboard my longboat sailing from the Oslo Fjord, destined for a spot of pillage and general mayhem in that dull old island of Great Brexit. My crew: second-in-command, Mikael Persbrandt; chief oarsman, Ross Poldark (series 1 only); fisticuff warriors, Ragnar and Rollo Lothbrok, Uhtred of Bebbanburg and Jon Snow; sage and soothsayer, Kevin McCloud (clever, yet flirtatious). Prepare thyselves, boring old Brexiteers!
