I didn’t really follow a pattern. I used prior experience based on socks I’ve knit from Sensational Knitted Socks. I cast on 66 stitches, on 2 circular needles, and knit the cuff and leg on size 2 needles. I used the size one needle for the heel flap and foot. I referred to the book to remember which way the decreases went on the gusset and to remember how to decrease at the toe.
Finally made up a mantra to help me:
skip (ssk) away from heel, knit toward the heel
