Notes

Starting the Moebius band with the Brown Sheep kiwi and the fizz left over from the mossy basket to give it a fuzzy edge. Then I’ll use the leftover brown sheep from Jo’s Adventure bag (onyx) and my repair of my Adventure bag strap (charcoal). This is going to be a stashbuster project.

The moebius section was difficult to fit and work on my 47” needle. I’m glad to be finished with it.

Adding the applied i-cord border in onyx. It really seems giant…like a family of bobcats could live in this when I’m done…I don’t recall how small this yarn felts…but it will have to felt a lot. I’m continuing but it seems off to me.

01-10-2016

Finished the knitting.

I knit the “floor” of the bed in alternating black and gray stripes, instead of thick stripes that would have been created if I had just knit each skein until it was finished. Ran out of the last skein right before the end so I used a scrap of the green from the band to finish it off.

Felting might have to wait for me to borrow a friend’s top-loading washer to felt it, unless I decide to felt in my front-loader…!

01-17-2016

Felted it in my front-loading washer. A few times on heavy duty (which is a long cycle) and then a few times on quick wash. Probably 6-7 total cycles.

The moebius band around the top didn’t felt as much as the body of the bed. I imagine that’s because its yarn is bulkier and was knit on the same needles…so it moved less…they’re both Brown Sheep, but one was bulkier….

Anyway, I wish the cat bed was a little smaller and the band had felted more. I might try to felt it again a few times to make it a little smaller, but it seems like the bed-part might have stopped felting.

The cats seemed to prefer their shipping boxes with an old sweater inside to this, so I put it next to the heat register to tempt them inside. They haven’t done what Cat’s kitties do in her sample photos (curl inside and push against the body of the bed). I am hoping that will happen someday. If not, it’s a little nicer looking than the random shipping box with a sweater, easier to leave out when company comes!
