I started knitting these socks on my way to FHT 2013 (Flinkhand Treffen 2013), an absolutely wonderful annual gathering (in Germany) of people interested in medieval handcrafts (mostly spinning, tablet-weaving, dyeing, but also fingerloop, sprang, nadelbindung, etc.). I didn’t have a small, portable project to work on during this 3-day event, so I started on these socks in the car on the way there. I think I knit about half the first sock during the long weekend (there were plenty of other things to do there) and finished the rest of the pair soon after arriving home. Because I started the socks for FHT, I call these my FHT socks. Small 5-row stripes with Fair-Isle patterns that I make up as I go along.
