This bedspread will have a lot of history. My mom got this book when I was a kid and I always wanted her to make this. Crocheted a blue square when I was in college (about 2001) and I thought it would make a good pond for the center. Now that I have kids of my own, finally going to make this bedspread. Started June 2021.
Since the blue square was made of acrylic, the rest of the blanket will be acrylic too. This also means it will last forever. One of my favorite places as a kid was the medicinal herb garden at the university and it had koi ponds, so around the pond will be square beds with herbs. My son loves trains so the main path will be a train track.
The second blanket would have some expanded veggie beds with my favorite crops because I have a big veggie garden, and the flowers around the house will be based on one of my kids’ favorite board books, The Rainbow Garden.

Decided to make 2 smaller lap blankets, so I am finishing up and adding a border to the herb garden.

Stopped with a 3x3’ blanket that’s good for a lap or snuggling on the couch, which I was starting to use it for anyway. I may make a second blanket, that possibly I’ll join together in the future. But right now I like the idea of smaller blankets.
For the edge, I did double crochet basket stitch, and clover leaves around the edge.
