Notes

Making a swatch stitch dictionary for myself out of slip stitches.

Flat Swatches

Front and back are the same. The S stitches can also be made by doing the stitch from back to front with the yarn in front (inverse or I). If you are familiar with knitting, inverse stitches are done purl-wise. The F stitches can also be made with IB stitches, and the B stitches can also be made with IF stitches. For instance, the W1F stitch can also be made by doing a W1IB stitch (one-wrap inverse back-loop slip-stitch). This will put a W1F stitch on the back side of the work.

1) both-loop slip-stitch (S)
2) front-loop slip-stitch (F) ~ excellent substitute for knit garter stitch
3) back-loop slip-stitch (B) ~ excellent substitute for knit 1x1 ribbing, but worked sideways

4) one-wrap both-loop slip-stitch (W1S)
5) one-wrap front-loop slip-stitch (W1F)
6) one-wrap back-loop slip-stitch (W1B)
There are two ways to do wraps in these one-wrap stitches. The first way, you simply wrap the yarn around the hook like you were going to do a double crochet stitch, insert hook in designated loop(s), yarn over hook, pull through all loops on hook. The second way, you hold the yarn in front of your work like you were going to do an inverse stitch, insert hook front to back through designated loop(s), yarn over hook, pull through all loops on hook. The first method gives a looser fabric than the second method.
7) two-wrap both-loop slip-stitch (W2S)
8) two-wrap front-loop slip-stitch (W2F)
9) two-wrap back-loop slip-stitch (W2B)
You can do more wraps too, with many wraps these stitches are also known as bullion stitches.

10) twisted both-loop slip-stitch (TS)
11) twisted front-loop slip-stitch (TF)
12) twisted back-loop slip-stitch (TB)

Stitches in the Round

1) both-loop slip-stitch (S)
2) inverse both-loop slip-stitch (IS) (back side of S)
3) front-loop slip-stitch (F)
4) back-loop slip-stitch (B)
5) inverse front-loop slip-stitch (IF) (back side of B)
6) inverse back-loop slip-stitch (IB) (back side of F)
