Stash busting for 2020 …..

Knitting a large tea cozy with steeks, with chart from Marie Wallin’s Scalloway Tam, which calls for Jamieson’s Spindrift. I am using Rowan Felted Tweed, finding some close equivalents (or not, as the case may be and my stash allows).

Here are my equivalents:

Spindrift ---> Felted Tweed

106 Mooskit -------- 177 Clay
252 Birch ----------- 153 Phantom
141 Camel ----------- 190 Stone
190 Tundra ---------- 175 Cinnamon
323 Cardinal --------- 150 Rage
232 Blue Lovat ------ 152 Watery
261 Paprika ---------- 154 Ginger
230 Yellow Ochre ---- 181 Mineral
763 Pacific------------ 804 Night Sky
567 Damask --------- 183 Peony
329 Laurel ----------- 184 Celadon

My chosen gauge on US 4 needles in stockinette stitch:
24 sts. x 30 rows = 4”

German Twisted Cast-on; 120 sts.

Used Rage (150) for the corrugated ribbing along with Clay (177) -- knit 8 rounds of corrugated ribbing.

Added 8 steek sts. after 60 sts. and then again at the end of 120 sts. (60 + 8 + 60 +8)

Completed Rounds 1-34.
Bound off first steek for the spout.
Completed to Round 40; bound off handle steek.

24 January: It looked a little bit too short at the end of the regular rounds (Rounds 1-40) prior to beginning the decrease rounds, so I knit Rounds 41 & 42 as regular rounds, and added additional regular rounds, namely Rounds 1-4 in my own choice of colors, to add a bit of length before the decrease rounds began. Started the decrease rounds on Round 43 of the chart, adjusting them so they worked per pattern.

Completed 49 rounds.

27 January: Completed the knitting, and now need to cut and hem the steeks openings, (possibly add an I-cord around the spout and handle openings), weave in the ends, make some fat pom poms for the top. slightly_smiling_face
