“Were there zombies and vampires back in the black’n’white days Grandma, when you were little?”
.
So we had to watch the funny old black and white creature feature classics. Thank goodness Fiona mentions each of the original movies in her book and re-creates the star-monsters in a size and medium that 6 year olds can get their little heads around!
These marvelous patterns are fun to make and are nice stash busters, too. Very clever instructions. The only glitch I ran into was not having enough of the same, exact size snaps on hand. This is very important, as the best thing about these is ripping off their arms and legs and costumes and re-assembling them (as any mad scientist will tell you!) All the snaps have to be the same size so that the body parts are thoroughly interchangeable.
Getting together all the little doll size accessories was tricky, so here’s some tips (though the prices and availability will no doubt vary):
Amazon seller Duman supplied the small, colorful, button sized 10x22mm stone skulls on a 16” strand for $6.49-- a lot of nicely carved detailing for that price! (These are shown on a lovely polymer millefiori plate by Etsy seller Dreams In Colors from Haifa, Israel.)
Amazon seller Beadaholic supplied the glass lampwork evil eye 10mm beads, 20 for 3.49. Excellent quality there.
Amazon seller Andrea’s Beads & Crafts supplied the multi color acrylic evil eye 10mm beads at 50 for $11.49.
The large 14x18mm black Jasper stone skulls were 10 for $2.85 from Amazon seller Luos Cultural Goods (USA Seller). These were very intricately carved as well.
The only thing I haven’t acquired yet are some little gothic jewelry charms as Fiona pictured in her book. Etsy is full of them, though. I thought I’d have more broken chains and extra jump rings in my own jewlery box to make the Zombie Cop’s handcuffs, but fell short there.
The Grandson is very particular about making sure these turn out just like Fiona’s book, so I had to deconstruct the Classic Zombie and take off his extra eye. I did manage to keep his manic smile on however.
