This was an attempt of Laura Nelkin’s Skywalker Shawl. I love her online Craftsy class “Mastering Lace Shawls” and hope to actually complete an entire Skywalker one day. Her class is so thorough and inspirational that it’s hard to believe that I got distracted and lost my place and stitch counts.
This was my first crescent shawl and was a hard lesson in life lines which I eventually used only after frogging back 4 inches 3 different times (where’s my clue stick gone to?). Luckily this wonderful yarn was such a pleasure to knit and the lace so hypnotizing that I think I almost subconsciously screwed up just to keep from completing it and so enjoyed the prolonged freedom of improvising longer! Maybe this should be called Wild Abandon…?
Found the information on the luscious yarn used here. It’s from Black Sheep Dyeworks on Etsy. This is their “Nutmeg” and the description of it from Etsy:
“Hand Dyed Superwash Merino Wool Yarn
100% Superwash Merino Wool
Fingering Weight
Hand dyed with color-fast acid dyes, in variegated shades of nutmeg, terra cotta, mahogany, mocha, ginger, graphite and a little sage. Please note that I have tried to capture the color accurately, but my camera (and perhaps your monitor) may result in some variation.
• Each skein weighs 102g, approximately 437 yards
• Approximately 7 to 8 stitches per inch on US #1-3 needles
• Hand dyed with color-fast acid dyes
• Machine or hand washable, dry flat
• Priced per skein. If multiple skeins are available, they are from the same batch
Smooth and soft, a treat to knit. Spun with a tight twist for great stitch definition and better resistance to pilling. One skein is enough for a pair of socks or a lacy scarf. This yarn has been dyed and stored in a dry, smoke-free environment.“
