Note on needles: It’s extremely important, more in this pattern and yarn than others I’ve worked with, that you use very finely pointed needles with looong points. I tried 6 of my usual lace needles before I found these that could handle the fine, springy yarn and the “purl three together” of this pattern!
This is an experiment in lace knitting and “negative ease” for my little sister, Tasha. She has such lovely dark hair, a willowy figure and cool sense of style. She’ll easily carry off a garment with a little “drama” such as I have in mind. Maybe it’s all the Charlotte Bronte and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle I’ve been listening to, but it just has to have a dark, moody, Victorian flavor!
I’ve made the back all popcorn lace for max give and body hugging fit. The straps are extra wide in a seed stitch for stretchy, stay-put comfort. The combination of slinky yarn and stretchy lace pattern on front and back of this camisole make it expand wonderfully.
Although I don’t have any idea whether I’m knitting with bamboo, cotton or what--- it feels and behaves like wool crepe. It’s the perfect yarn for this Popcorn Lace pattern, a bit crisp like linen but softer. It’s nicely springy and shiny.
Daniele Dietrich is a wonderful designer. Magnolia is a marvelous one-piece knit that you can find on the link below:
