100th Ravelry project!!
This yarn is amazing. I bought it from Botanical Shades’ booth at Rhinebeck 2015 after scouring the festival for a superwash wool in gold. Not only did this meet my specifications, but knit up with a simply incredible stitch definition and softness! Plus the natural dyes have made just an incredible color :’)
As for the pattern, hrgh. I’ve heard before (a lot from fooost) that BT patterns are needlessly long and complicated, and I guess I just didn’t want to believe the truth… True to form, this pattern was spread across nearly 9 pages when it easily could’ve been cut down to under 7, and there were so many techniques used primarily to combat the fragility of BT yarns. If you read through my notes, I had a pretty easy time knitting the set-in sleeves at the same time as the decreases, eliminating the need for so many WCS, flat brioche, and a bulky shoulder seam that many people have complained about in the projects. Another big problem for me was the way the sleeve increases were written to be off-center. I ended up moving the increase columns one stitch over one sleeve to make sure both were mirrored, and I wouldn’t have a weird faux seam visible once I joined the sleeves to the body.
Other minor mods: I knit the body to be slightly longer and the neckline to be slightly deeper (I don’t like very high crew collars, they bug my neck). The sleeves came out just slightly too long, but they can be cuffed!

Finished first skein! 14 chart repeats done. I’ve noticed that one of the skeins is slightly darker than the others, so I’ll probably alternate it with a lighter one for the sleeves to make it less noticeable

hhhhhrrgggghhh I got all the way through the back shoulder shaping before noticing the right decrease was off and was giving me an extra stitch on that side. I am NOT someone who seams a sweater one stitch over to compensate so it had be ripped back down the armpit separation ://////

ugh, when you screw up this pattern it really shows……ripping down w/ a crochet hook is a mess every time

Halfway through sleeve 1!

Sleeve 1’s been done, started the 2nd today. I’ve been thinking about restarting the body because my perfectionist streak has been gnawing at me about not alternating skeins there, which has led to a bit of a dye lot stripe. But I’d have to reknit the whole thing……but the stripe might drive me crazy even if I’m the only one who notices………aaaaAAAAAUGH

I bit the bullet and ripped the body to the ribbing, then started the lace pattern with alternating skeins -_- it looks much better and more solid now, esp with the sleeves also alternated. oh and the sleeves are COMPLETE so only a few more inches on the body left before I do the yoke!!!

Because I hate seaming sleeve caps I’ve been knitting the front, back, and sleeve decreases in the round like a modified raglan. If I do this right, the only thing I’ll have to sew will be the very tops of the caps to the shoulder. Honestly I think it’s easier this way, this pattern is complicated enough without the ridiculousness of WCS on every row and knitting brioche back-and-forth.

so far my sleeve mods are working………mwahahahaha……………

Blocked seamed shoulders and sleeves! The fake set-in worked PERFECTLY, I feel like a knitting mastermind. The sleeves are a little long, but can easily be cuffed so I don’t mind. Might reblock them to be slightly less snug tho so that I can wear this over other shirts in the future. rn I’m picking up the collar stitches and then this baby will be DONE at last!!!!!
