Notes from other knitters:
Very helpful!
I slipped knit-wise on knit rows and purl-wise on purl rows. But adjustment needs to happen when moving to knitting in the round. I found that I needed to slip purl-wise with yarn in back on the second slip stitch row. Otherwise the stitch collapses and the pattern is lost.
Here is my take on how to proceed with the texture pattern once you’re knitting in the round:
Row 1. K1, sl1 knit-wise, rep to end
Row 2. K, sl1 purl-wise with yarn in back, rep to end
Row 3. Knit
Row 4. Knit
Row 5. sl1 knit-wise, rep to end
Row 6. sl1 purl-wise with yarn in back, rep to end
Row 7. Knit
Row 8. Knit
There also isn’t much direction on how to manage the decreases and keep up the texture pattern. I’ve fumbled my way through this section and am not entirely happy with how it’s turned out. For the decreasing on the hat I just reverted to stocking stitch.

Some extra help on the pattern would be useful. I took the advice from another Raveler (thanks mzliz) to:
* follow the cable cast on with K to end of row, PM, join to work in round
It took me a couple of tries to get this pattern right. The pattern doesn’t specify whether to slip the stitches knitwise or purlwise. I tried it purlwise, but the texture pattern was not prominent. I searched the pattern author’s website for errata, I looked at the forum questions, and finally found another raveler’s pattern notes.
Then, the instructions regarding joining in the round don’t make sense. It should be knit one row, then join in the round.
