Notes

I decided to make this scarf for my friend and ex-colleague Ali as a leaving gift. That was back in Sept, unfortunately due to my super slow knitting skills she has left, worked on more than 2 jobs, had her birthday and Christmas and it’s still not quite done! BUT it’s so nearly finished that I feel ready to add it to my projects, just the tassels to go!
I decided to use a 4 ply yarn instead of the recommended DK as I really wanted a more narrow scarf, as Ali is a sophisticated lady and his would suit her much better! My colour-way was inspired by another friends checked shirt, I knew the colours would work perfectly when I saw them all together and was lucky enough to find them on my first ever trip to I Knit, in Waterloo..yey!
I had read about the the tricky middle square section on other peoples project pages and when I came to trying it I also found it as difficult as warned, it just looked so messy. I ripped it out several times and then, because the first half of the square was much neater than the second, decided to knit the scarf in 2 sections and graft them together in the middle of the square. This, although not perfect, looked much better. It also meant the 2 sides were the same width, as when I had tried reversing the shaping the second half always came out slightly wider.
I don’t think I did the same amount of repeats as written in the pattern, I ended up doing 6 each side. The scarf ended up 46.5cm long and 12cm wide.
I really can’t wait to give it to Ali, I hope she likes it!!!!
