I thoroughly disliked knitting these socks. Maybe because I tried different things and kept unraveling b/c I did not like what I got. Maybe b/c I knitted top-down, which is not my preferred method of knitting socks.
Also, as much as I liked the yarn in the skein…knitting with it was a total turn off, which I did not anticipate. Usually I like long color changes; usually I like orange and purple…don’t know what happened here.
Glad I am done!
Best part about these socks are the toes. For wearing them around the house without shoes, they are terrific.
CO 64 sts, using 4 DPNs (CO 32 sts holding 2 DPNs tog, then CO next 32 sts same way). Close for knitting ITR, pull one DPN out half way and begin k1tbl, p1 rib. Using the ndls this way makes it easier to knit the first round. Cont in rib for 15 rds.
Begin in pattern sts: 1+2 = k1p1,
3+4 = k
5+6 = p1k1
7+8 = k
work heel over 32 sts by sl1, k1tbl and purl on return for 30 rows
heel turn: sl1, k15, ssk, k1, turn
sl1, p1, p2tog, p1, turn
until all sts are “eaten”
middle of heel is now beginning of rnd
k8, pu 16 (1gth sts will be from the middle to close the gap), pattern over instep, pu 16 (again one st to close the gap), k8
k one full round
alter b/w 1 decrease rnd and a plain round until 32 heel sts remain and cont in pattern over instep only
toe: begin by decreasing 1 st ea side = 60 sts.
next round: k4, k2tog around
k 2 rds plain
k3, k2tog
k 2 rnds plain
cont in this manner, ending in k2tog around 2x in a row = 5 sts, pull yarn through.
